Fristam FM Multi-Stage Centrifugal Pump

What is the Fristam FM?

The Fristam FM Series is a multi-stage, sanitary centrifugal pump designed to deliver high pressures with smooth, non-pulsating flow. Engineered for durability and reliability, the FM handles demanding hygienic applications requiring consistent pressure and high flow. With up to four stages, this pump can be configured to meet your system’s exact performance requirements.

Built from 316L stainless steel with advanced seal technology, the FM is designed for long service life, minimal maintenance, and dependable operation in critical process environments.

Where is it Used? (Key Applications)

Fristam FM pumps are trusted in industries where hygiene, reliability, and high pressure are essential:

  • Reverse Osmosis (RO) Systems – for consistent, non-pulsating feed
  • Ultrafiltration (UF) & Microfiltration – providing the pressure stability membranes require
  • Pressure Feed Applications – delivering product with uniform force to downstream processes
  • Recirculation in Process Systems – maintaining constant flow under high line pressures

Commonly applied in dairy, food, beverage, and pharmaceutical production, the FM ensures efficiency and product safety across the most stringent sanitary processes.

How Does it Work? (Theory of Operation)

The FM operates on the centrifugal pumping principle. Product enters through the inlet at the center of the impeller, where it is accelerated outward by centrifugal force. In multi-stage configurations, the fluid passes sequentially through multiple impellers and diffusers, each stage building additional pressure before final discharge.

This design provides:

  • Higher discharge pressures without sacrificing flow
  • Smooth, continuous operation with minimal vibration
  • Reduced recirculation and turbulence, protecting both pump efficiency and product integrity

Key Features and Benefits

  • High Pressure, High Flow – Configurable up to four stages; models achieve discharge pressures up to 1,250 psi and flows up to 600 gpm
  • Non-Pulsating Performance – Ensures consistent membrane feed and product quality
  • Sanitary Design – 316L stainless steel wetted parts with a 32 Ra surface finish for hygienic processing
  • Durable Construction – Resists cavitation and hydraulic shock for extended pump life
  • Flexible Sealing Options – Single or double mechanical seals available to suit application demands
  • Long Service Life with Low Maintenance – Engineered for reliability, with replaceable elastomers and accessible maintenance points

Available Options

The FM Series is offered in five models, available in both single- and multi-stage configurations. Options include:

  • Stage Configuration – Choose from 1–4 impeller stages for the pressure and flow your system requires
  • Seal Types – Available with single or double mechanical seals to suit your process and maintenance preferences
  • Elastomer Materials – Select from Viton® or EPDM o-rings and gaskets for chemical compatibility
  • Motor Options – Standard NEMA TEFC motors, with other drive packages available upon request
  • Flushing Systems – Optional seal flush connections for double mechanical seal applications

Where to Buy

Fristam FM multi-stage centrifugal pumps are available through Fristam’s extensive network of authorized distributors. Our distributors provide expert support, sizing assistance, and local service.

High-Flow Filtration

The FM5 is designed for today's larger filtration systems. It can deliver an average of 300 PSI. This higher pressure and flow can decrease the number of feed pumps needed, reducing maintenance and saving space.
